Climate Monitoring

This tool allows the user to monitor and analyze current and recent rainfall: precipitation, maximum temperature and minimum temperature.

Data can be extracted at a point, region or other administrative level. The data can then be presented in the context of four different maps and graphs. These can be selected using the Analysis drop down menu.

The default map on this page shows Rainfall Amounts over Tanzania for the most recent dekad (10-day) period.

Dataset Documentation

Reconstructed rainfall data over land areas on a 0.0375˚ x 0.0375˚ lat/lon grid (about 4 km of resolution). The rainfall time series (1983 to 2014) were created by combining quality-controlled station observations with satellite rainfall estimates.

Instructions

The Climate Monitoring interface provides the ability to make customized graphs for a user-selected location or spatial area. The interface consists of a clickable map, 3 drop down menus and a row of buttons at the top of the map.

As the user moves the cursor over the map, a tool bar will appear on top that will allow for data of previous dekads (1983 to the most recently updated dekad) to be displayed on the map.

Drop down menu descriptions:

  • Region: The user can choose to display the map over the whole country or for specific regions.
  • Spatially Average Over: The user can elect to produce graphs that represent data at a specific location (gridpoint) or data that has been averaged at the region or district level.
  • Analysis: The user can choose to display from four different maps as described above.

When the user places their mouse over the map, a new set of tools will appear on top. A summary of these tools can be found below:
